While few weddings are simple there is something truly beautiful about a simple wedding cake. Layer vanilla cake with cream cheese buttercream, topped with fresh fruit & a light dusting of icing sugar. There you have it, a perfect match to a lovely farm wedding for my cousin Chris and his new wife Kelly.
It could not have been a more beautiful day. The July weather had co-operated fully, not too hot, not too cool. As my cousin Sandra was 7 months pregnant with her son Noah, I’m sure she appreciated the perfectly not-too-hot afternoon we had.
Chris had moved to the abandoned farm house and began a complete overhaul only a few years ago. When Kelly moved in it became their home and not long after they became engaged and decided on a farm wedding. There were months of spring prep work where my Aunt Deborah drove out to the farm and planted, watered and nurtured the landscape in preparation for the upcoming nuptials.
And then the big day arrived.
Chris and Kelly said ‘I Do’ just down the way from their home on a grassy knoll which sloped down towards the mature trees, surrounding the wedding ceremony.
We partied into the night under a white tent near the old red barn (which was off limits!) but pretty to look at. All the food was done by the family. There was everything! You could fill your plate three times and not have the same thing twice.
Then it was time for the cake. Kelly was so happy with her wedding cake! Having my new cousin on her wedding day gushing over the wedding cake made my night. They even got in a good cake smash!
